Full of energy on this first day in the Florida Keys, we set
out for Key West. The weather was
slightly overcast and threatened the odd shower throughout the day with the
temperature reaching around 80 F.
When we left the truck we noticed a great number of chickens
around and they we congregating around the front of a car. These are not dumb birds, they were picking
the dead bugs off the front of the grill – a free service!
We started by taking a “hop-on/hop-off” bus tour that was
very informative and interesting. We
stopped at a little café for a very good lunch and key-lime pie for dessert – just
had to do that J!
On the bus again and another trip around town, we saw the
southern most point of the continental
U.S. – 90 miles to Cuba, Mile Marker “0”
of U.S. #1, the other end of this road stops at the Maine/New Brunswick border!
