Off we went out to a reef that was about 6 miles out in the
Atlantic Ocean (45 minute trip each way with about an hour on the reef). We travelled for about 20 minutes in a
natural channel among the Mangroves, very serene.
Once we arrived on the reef we saw two large Groupers, the
bigger one was estimated at about 400 pounds – Big Fish!! The boat staff was very knowledgeable about
all of the fish on the reef. There were
a great number of Jelly Fish (not my favourite fish – yuck and ewe!!) floating
around. They were called Blue Jelly Fish
and migrate to these waters every year at this time. We saw many other fish from about 2 to 12
inches in length. Our visit was topped
off by a Nurse Shark cruising by that looked about 5 feet long just as we were
leaving for shore.
Of course by the time we got back, we were hungry and we
were told about a small little restaurant called Hobo’s Café. Very good and very reasonably priced.
Next stop was a small bird sanctuary that rehabilitated
injured birds and either re-introduced them into the wild or kept them if they
could not survive outside the sanctuary.
It was a small place but it did have a great number of birds, everything
from Owls to Pelicans, Parrots and Egrets.
Well this day has also come to a close; we headed home for a
relaxing evening.
Off to Lake Wales, FL tomorrow.
